About This Spot

Northland Chop Suey unwraps a quietly familiar vibe the moment you step through its doors—a down-to-earth neighborhood gem where the rhythm is gentle and unhurried. The modest space hums with the soft clatter of dishes and the low murmur of friendly exchanges, inviting both longtime regulars and curious newcomers to settle in and slow down.

This is a spot where the pace matches the comfort of a cherished local routine. The room carries the nostalgic scent of fried fish and seasoned rice, aromas that feel like an embrace, familiar and grounding. Here, the kitchen works steadily, treating classic Chinese-American offerings with an earnest simplicity—whether it’s the ever-popular orange chicken fried rice or a thoughtfully prepared tripe sandwich, ready fresh each day.

Behind the counter, the warmth of the owner adds a layer of connection beyond just the meal—there’s a genuine curiosity about your story, a wish for you to feel seen and welcomed on your visit. It’s these human moments, shared in brief but sincere exchange, that give Northland Chop Suey its distinct character.

The menu invites exploration without pretense, featuring comforting staples that echo local tastes and traditions. While dishes like fried wontons and crispy egg rolls start the experience, the heart of the meal often centers on plates that combine familiar textures with homey flavors—think of rice cooked just right and seafood brought to the table with straightforward care.

While not every visit may hit perfection, the spirit of Northland Chop Suey rests in its role as a steady spot to find approachable, honest food and a quiet connection to the community. It’s a place where the comfort lies as much in the moments shared as in the meals served.

The food use to be really good but it is going downhill. The rice was dry & salty. The lo mein was dry & this was my go to place for lo mein. The crab ragoons had very little filing...I was disappointed
